Thesis
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the team of Kathleen Antonelli, Jean Bartik, Betty Holberton, Marlyn Meltzer, Frances Spence, and Ruth Teitelbaum successfully programmed the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) to become the world’s first re-programmable electronic computer when it was introduced to the public in February 1946. Through their pioneering contributions to the ENIAC, these women, known as the ENIAC Six, shattered technological barriers by demonstrating the programmability of computers that inspired the evolution of modern computers and shattered the glass ceiling that paved the way for women to advance in the computing field.
